Despite the best of intentions to have a productive workday and successfully complete projects, many professionals end their workday feeling unaccomplished and with too many unfinished tasks. They are often overwhelmed, constantly interrupted, and are chronically investing hours of their own time working in the evening, instead of doing quality things with their family, or dedicating time to personal goals and hobbies.

It is not uncommon to think “today is the day I am going to get things done,” only to lose sight of those good intentions as email inboxes implode, a new issue arises on a project, or a client needs something urgently. These habits will not change without redesigning the current systems, improving and reshaping habits, and restructuring the mind. We are never really taught how to manage our time during the workday effectively and how to mitigate interruptions and prevent distractions. Yet, time-management and organization are essential skills when leading a successful business or practice.

This presentation, From Frazzled to Focused, will help busy professionals get past overwhelm and design their day with a productive and intentional system.  Attendees will learn and apply a series of simple and practical strategies that can be used to structure an efficient and effective day, including accomplishing the most important project of the day, without feeling overwhelmed or working late into the night. Attendees will walk away feeling a sense of relief and prepared to tackle the rest of their workweek ahead of them, as well as tools to apply to their practice to permanently and positively change their habits.

What we’ll cover:

  • Improve their practice through applying a series of simple and practical strategies that can be used to structure an efficient and focused workday.

  • Experience interactive exercises to better understand how to break down projects effectively, including templates to implement the strategies into their practice.

  • Participants will have an opportunity to acknowledge the “butterfly thoughts” that are being held in their head and learn what to do with them.

Sarah Tetlow is the founder and CEO of Firm Focus which focuses on productivity consulting for attorneys and other legal professionals.  She uses her past experiences, organizational and strategic thought process, education, and training to help law firms improve their bottom line and operate more efficiently.  More importantly, attorneys see a reduction in stress and anxiety and an increase in focus and new business.

Sarah began her career in law in the early 2000’s after graduating from UC Santa Barbara with a B.A. in Law & Society.   Sarah has experienced first-hand the stresses that attorneys endure in trying to manage multiple projects.  They also have the daily necessity to react to more pressing needs in a matter of minutes, causing frequent mind-shifting and multi-tasking.  Sarah’s mission, and the reason for starting Firm Focus, is the desire to see a change in the industry.  To help attorneys and other legal professionals experience control over their day and mitigate the poor habits caused by the workload.  Ultimately, through Firm Focus, Sarah wants to help attorneys boost productivity and reduce stress at work.
